How Rihanna Laid The Foundation For The LVHM Deal Almost A Decade Ago

Rihanna has been deservingly covered the entire week for her one of a kind deal with LVMH, but most people haven't followed the foundation that she laid down before this announcement.

Let’s run this back Ocean’s 8 style.

  • Rihanna dropped her hit single “Pon de Replay” in 2005 and three short years later n 2008 Gucci had her perform at one of their fundraisers.
  • In 2011 she began working with stylist Mel Ottenberg and they mixed styles from emerging designers to the big names like Lanvin and Givenchy.
  • 2014, she was named fashion icon of the year at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards.
  • It seems like RiRi believes that things come in 3’s based on the timeline, but she dropped Fenty Beauty in 2017, and that reportedly did over $500 million in sales.

"Real G's move in silence like lasagna" Lil Wayne

So as you can see, Rihanna has been about this life from the beginning.  I didn’t even mention the Puma, Dior or her lingerie Fenty x Savage.  I feel like people are underestimating the brilliance behind the deal she just signed.  I mean think about it… LVMH houses consist of 15 houses including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi, Givenchy and now Fenty aka Robyn Rihanna Fenty’s own HOUSE.  You don’t have to be in fashion to understand why both sides of this deal make sense.  Rihanna said that this is a “Big day for the culture.”

Disrupting Real Estate INSIDE Your House

What's the most valuable real estate INSIDE your house?  No need to guess, I'll tell you, it's your TV.  Now, I know I have some readers who say we don't have a TV in our home we read and talk to each other… I get that, but for the other 95%, Roku is looking to expand in homes like McDonald's is on street corners.

Some of you may ask WTH is a Roku?! Well, in short, they make a similar device to Amazon's Firestick, but they also manufacture TV's with the software built-in.  They smashed their first-quarter, their stock up 169%!!

Let me upgrade ya…

Their primary revenue driver kind of goes like this… Let me sell you an inexpensive TV with multiple streaming services, and as you sign up to stream, we get our cut.  The way I see it, as they grow that segment of being the king of affiliate marketing, the cord cutting movement and streaming apps have no choice but to go to Roku who might just corner that in the home real estate market.

AMEX Just Acquired Database Of Millenials

American Express acquired Resy, a reservation platform out of New York.  In my opinion, AMEX has never made a real attempt at marketing to a younger audience.  It was more of a statement card that you only pull out every now and then because that charge is due immediately.  Now that they’ve acquired Resy, that may give them a Benjamin Button type of vibe.

Why is this good for Amex?

  • They inherit a marketable database of people that aren’t members of AARP.
  • Access to additional streams of income because restaurants seem to love Resy’s CRM Resy Fly over OpenTable.
  • Instead of calling the Amex concierge line Amex customers can just use Resy.
AMEX doesn’t just need the talent from Resy, it needs fresh members, and this could help.  The perks for people like you and me if you’re an Amex holder is the points.  I assume they’ll integrate ways to redeem points and receive more points by using Resy.  Lastly, Amex has a lock on reservations at several high-end restaurants worldwide, so when you want to entertain, show off, or go on an expensive date, you should be able to use Resy.

Entrepreneurs: Mental Health Awareness

It's Mental Health Awareness Month, but this is something that should be on your mind at all times no matter the month.  Entrepreneurs, I get it, you get caught up in the grind of the hustle.  The thing that I had to realize eventually was how many buildings (life, health, and family) around me that were getting demolished while I built my Burj Khalifa.  Ever since I interviewed my friend Shanti Das, the founder of Silence The Shame, I realized that my mental health was just as important as my business or me coming for summer with my new body.  After losing her father to suicide, Shanti has been on a crusade to help people open up to talk more about mental health.   Shanti recently partnered up with MusiCares in NYC to present The Soundtrack Of Mental Health Vol. 2 to help address the stigma around mental health.

For my entrepreneurs, I know it gets lonely, frustrating, and irritating sometimes when you’re building a business.  I created a group of other entrepreneurs that I talk to often about the trials and tribulations of being a founder.  Keeping up with your mental health is something that should be added to your daily routine.  Check in with yourself and others you never know who needs that text or call.

Michael A. Freeman’s study says that 72% of entrepreneurs are directly or indirectly affected by mental health conditions.

More Than What They Say We Are...

Case

Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree Chase Minnifield's NFL career was short, but his second half might be better than is first.  Minnifield is founder and CEO of two tech companies, EZ Turn and Helping Hands.  His overarching goal is to help other pros transition into the business and tech world before their careers come to an end. It seems like more and more pro-athletes are investing their brands and money into better deals.

LeBron James Partners With Walmart To Feed The Hungry

“One out of eight Americans struggle with hunger,” James says in an awareness video. “And I believe one is too many. With one action [you], can make a huge impact. With one select item through Walmart or online, you can secure a meal for a family in your community through Feeding America.”
